Custom M1Go Dada by LASH "Toxic Glow!"

I sent LASH an unpainted glow-in-the-dark Dada (ダダ) by the company M1Go...

I got back a Toxic Glow Dada!

I've had this for awhile (a few months! gah!), but I have obviously been very lazy about posting anything at all on my little blog here.

Dada is an Ultraman character... actually I believe an entire race of aliens that appeared in several Ultraman shows over the years. They look different at times, but always have white faces and black-and-white striped bodies. Dadas have the ability to teleport and can become invisible for short amounts of time. They can also fly and I have seen them with large laser gun looking weapons.

I have to admit, Dada was initially one of my favorite kaiju because he is so strange and different from the standard dinosaur themed monster of Japanese TV and films, but I have never actually seen an episode of Ultraman with Dada in it.

While my adoration of Dada has faded somewhat lately, I still really like the M1Go takes on this figure which seem to be all unpainted and ripe for customizing. I have a few that I will try my best to ruin too!

LASH took this one in a different direction than the stark black and white, obviously, with subtle green spray all over the body as well as some beady, red rat-looking eyes. We can pretend that this Dada has been infected with a strange, outer space radiation, enhancing his strength and giving him the ability to fire beams from his tiny red eyes. Giant Mekaru Kun by BountyXHunter

Here's an old entry I started and never got around to finishing--

There have been several Mekaru Kuns made by Bounty Hunter in silver, black and even blue, but the two huge Mekaru Kuns that came out are just awesome, standout pieces of vinyl! I had a smaller, silver Mekarukun and let it go, but I see this one staying with me for quite some time. It is impressive.

This is another BxH on the Skull Kun which is based sort of on Frankenberry. Just as Godzilla and King Kong both at one point had mechanical versions of themselves in Japanese movies, I imagine this is what a giant Kun would look like if he was a robot..... and his skin was removed somehow... :)

Not sure what this figure came in as it is so large. I imagine it would have been a BxH bag just like the rest of the Bounty Hunter toys I have seen.


Sculpt //4.5 out of 5//:
This is a solid, clean, mean looking machine. It takes elements of the original Kun and does a great job at making them look vintage robot style. The head still has the signature humps on the top, but in profile it has been elongated and almost appears wing-like.

It has some neat touches like the spikes on the shoulders and wrists (punk rocker jewelry?) and the indentions in lines that are like rivets or bolts. I like the robotic skeletal fingers as well.

The figure is cast in somewhat hard, matte surfaced vinyl that unfortunately shows scuffs, so be careful with handling if that is something you are concerned with.

The figure is articulated fairly well for a toy this size... it has a huge joint at the waist that allows the toy to really torn around for some poses. the arms swing at the shoulder and also rotate at the elbow which is a nice touch. The head and feet do not move.

I suppose the size of this can be a hindrance as well, as you will need quite a bit of shelf space to store him. It is tough to display all my Bounty Hunter toys together in my Detolf with this guy in the center.

Paint //5 out of 5//:
There is hardly any! Only the eyes are painted, but I am giving it a perfect score because the paint that is there is applied perfectly from what I can tell haha. Given what it is, I think this figure works best with this paint application. I mean, could you imagine the Terminator as anything but an all-steel body with those glowing eyes? Awesome

Coolness //5 out of 5//:
It's fucking gigantic! The only toy I really have that is equivalent in mass is my huge Stay Puft Marshmallow man made by Neca. This fact alone is reason enough to make it a great toy. Add on the fact that you can pose it a lot more than toys this size usually can be, and it it just one of the coolest figures I own.

Also, I was lucky enough with this figure to score the BxH store-exclusive towers that Mekaru Kun can lift and destroy. These are a very nice little bonus for this big guy.

Value //3.5 out of 5//:
I think at this point this toy is going to set you back quite a bit if you can actually find it anywhere, but I imagine that it still costs less than Kid Hunter. For that reason, I will say you'll be getting more bang for your buck here.

Overall //5 out of 5//:
Positives: Huge, decent articulation for a toy this shape and size, attitude and personality despite being a robot.

Negatives: Expensive, bulky to display

If you can find it and you like big big toys, this Giant Kun is for you!

Dirty Hippie Zag

Or maybe it should be called Arts and Crafts Time Zag. All it is missing is potpourri and popsicle sticks.

It is a rainbowed clear v-color hodge podge... red around the clear center belly, radiating out... blue and purple on his back

A little white on teeth and eye to make them stand out a bit.

Silk flowers stuffed inside! And of course the strategically placed daisies in the belly and face behind the eye.

The first shot is of the figure before I painted it but had the flowers in already.

Bizarro Zag

This is my first entry for the Super7 Zag Contest.

The DC character Bizarro was the inspiration, although all along the plan wasn't to have it look just like Bizarro. It's more like the negative image of a black and white Zag I guess.

I used a white paint pen to outline all the cracks on the figure... that step took quite awhile. It gave sort of a cool, 3D helix look to the figure with the clear vinyl. I was going to use clear smoke paint, but my bottle was all dried up from Kaiju-Taro :( so instead I used light coats of black inside the figure along the back, hips, shoulders, and head... so the outside stays nice and shiny and the black behind the white really makes the white cracks pop. I left the belly clear also

At first I had left the teeth unpainted, but on good advice, I painted them white.Unfortunately my brush skills suck. Oh well.

I'm back!

I hate that when I say that, I instantly think of that annoying Aerosmith song "Back in the Saddle." I have been lazy for FAR too long with my blog here. It has been a nice creative outlet for me in for almost the past year now, but I let it slide amongst other things. So I suppose this is my jump back in. Since I left, I did manage to get married somehow to an incredible lady who manages to put up with my toy collecting, blogging ang silly photostories. The wedding went off without a hitch and everyone seemed to have a really great time. I smoked cigars... danced... ate macaroni and cheese. (yep... we had fancy mac and cheese at our wedding!) We honeymooned in mostly sunny Costa Rica. A Gargamel Microman came along for the journey as well. You can see our photos in my flickr set:

That was my first time out of the country!

We flew into San Jose, then were driven to the Arenal region where we stayed at a hot springs resort at the foot of a volcano. Very cool... except for the ride down when I got about as car sick as I have ever been. From there we went to the beach for 3 days and roasted ourselves. We battled insects and wild animals there... and the fact that we had no air conditioning! YIKES.

But it was a fun trip and wedding experience overall... and I even came home to a horrid sinus infection that lasted me almost three weeks! Yay!

Anyway, I am writing this after I have posted some, but I guess all you loyal fans didn't need to know that. I am going to try to be back on here talking about my stuff and rambling as usual hopefully.

Clear Coating the Dako

On the recommendation of LASH, applied a rather heavy coat of clear coat to gloss up the Dako. I think it came out looking a lot better... more finished.

Flash Dako

I took my Hogan Dako and painted like crazy! The inspiration was the Dako from the flash movies on AnrakuAnsaku's site.

I used the flourescent paint that glows in black light.

This is still a work in progress, as I am touching up and adding a glossy clear coat. I wasn't in love with this end result, the clear coat was recommended by LASH on skullbrain.org, and I think a glossy surface will really help my opinion of it.

Kentucky Fried Goga

I painted my clear orange Gogamejiras last night.

I had fun painting this one - the highly textured surface is really forgiving with any imperfections in my paint application... and I'm sure there are tons of those! :)

I used a red/black/gold mix for the darker areas... the back of his head, his chest, hips, forearms

Metallic gold alone for highlights, nose, eyeballs, fingers, toes

then black to accent some of the darker areas... a small bit on his chest, the back of his head, the very edge of the forearms.

I used a tiny brush for the silver teeth and a paint pen for the black pupils.

Someone on skullbrain said it looked like fried chicken, hence the name of it.
